On September 20, approximately 40 members met on a rainy Saturday afternoon at the country home of Charlie and Lana Vieh near San Benito . Appropriately for the weather, our hosts served chicken gumbo along with red beans and brown rice. Members brought their usual amazing array of salads, side dishes, and desserts. Because of the weather tables were even set up in the bedrooms so everyone was able to enjoy the delicious lunch inside. After the meal, a brief business meeting was conducted by president Jon Watson.

The on again-off again rain showers did not deter folks from touring the extensive grounds and inspecting the large number of palms and other tropicals. After much visiting and discussion of palms, members began their journeys home about four o’clock. The Viehs always provide an enjoyable meeting venue.

Our next meeting will be hosted by Sarah Morlang in Garden Ridge just outside San Antonio on October 18.

Hope to see you there!
