The society met up in Austin this month at the home and garden of Randy and Cathy Smith. The Smith's live in a wonderful hill country setting and their property
has some drastic elevation changes in the backyard. Randy took advantage of this scenario and terraced the backyard into mini-garden beds led to via wonderful
wondering paths. This allowed him the opportunity to utilize every aspect of his property as well as mask the neighbors downhill of the property.
Members arrived to find refreshing cocktails, beer and sodas being served under the canopy of live oaks that adorn the upper yard. The upper yard was also decorated
to the festivities of Cinco De Mayo (May 5th) which was being celebrated locally. Shortly after 12-noon lunch was served, featuring two kinds of fajita's with all the
fixings to go along with them. And the dessert table seemed to be endless with all kinds of goodies!
After lunch we had a quick society meeting and covered up coming meetings and society news. We then adjourned indoors to see a slide presentation on yuccas, cacti and
complementary plants by Jeff Pavlet. Afterwards members socialized and continued to enjoy the gardens and hospitality. All in all it was a fabulous society meeting up
in the hills north of Austin. We thank the Smith's for their hospitality and Jeff for his presentation.
Our next meeting will be in Austin on 16 Jun, 2012. Look forward to seeing you at one of the up coming meetings.
