Jack's tropical garden (by Ed Ladd)

This month we made our way to Weslaco to visit Tad Dyers' garden and nursery and his father Jack's home and garden. We started out at Jack's home and garden where Jack has been gardening for many years and has a fabulous palm and tropical garden. The back yard is a maze of paths coming off the rear patio that lead the visitor throughout the gardens. The garden is superbly laid out so that you truly get a sense of being in Hawaii or some other tropical isle. The members enjoyed visiting the garden and with each other while waiting for lunch to be served. Jack and Tad put on a great feast and as always, our members had plenty to eat. After the the luncheon, we had a quick society meeting covering the treasury report, future meetings and an update on the Bob Riffle Memorial Bench. After the meeting we had an auction with a ton of plants donated by the hosts as well as other members. Per the norm, our members got away with some great deals and the society made a tidy sum. We very much appreciate all those that donated plants to our auction. After the auction, members drove over to Tad's home and garden/nursery. Members were free to roam the acres of palms and visit the multiple green houses. Tad also opted to sell stock palms to members that were interested. All in all we had a fabulous time visiting the Dyer's. We thank them for their hospitality and generosity. We look forward to seeing each of you next month at Romeo's in Brownsville. Enjoy the pics below of this months meeting.
