On January 8, approximately 50 PSST members gathered at the home of Danny and Kathy Payton in Harlingen. The very co-operative weather—partly cloudy skies, light breezes, and temperature in the low 80’s—allowed for a totally outdoor meeting. Our hosts grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with every imaginative condiment for a most enjoyable winter picnic. Members brought the usual array of salads, sides, and desserts. The Paytons live across the street from John and Mary Barkkari, so members were able to tour both yards and admire the many palms and other tropical plantings.

Maria and Martin Garza of Rancho Viejo provided a beautifully decorated cake with which to celebrate every member’s birthday. Chairman Jon Watson called out each month of the year so that those whose birthday fell during that month could stand and be recognized. A discussion was held concerning the future of the PSST Bulletin. It was indicated that a member might possibly assume the editorship but only with the condition that members submit articles, stories, and pictures. This idea was unanimously approved. Treasurer John Dillard stayed busy collecting dues for 2011.

After visiting with one another, members began their journeys home in mid-afternoon. Our next meeting will be on February 19 at the home of Kyle Robinson and Juan Munguia in Edinburg, where the entire yard is filled with palms and cacti.
