Skies were threatening with light mist as some 49 members and about 10 guests arrived at the home of Romeo and Linda Montalvo in Brownsville for the annual PSST Christmas party. Before the party really started, the skies cleared and the temperature rose to a comfortable level—good news since the entire event was held outdoors. The Montalvos provided a delicious Mexican lunch, as well as various beverages, and members brought a wonderful array of salads, sides, and desserts. After everyone was sufficiently filled with the outstanding food, a short business meeting was conducted by Chairman Jon Watson.

This was followed by the anticipated gift exchange. Members were asked to bring palm-related gifts to be distributed by drawing numbers. Each recipient displayed his or her gift and then selected the next one to be given out. The large pile of beautifully wrapped gifts soon disappeared to the oohs and aahs of everyone. This main event was followed by drawing for five free memberships for 2014. One of these was won by a guest who immediately joined the Society, along with two other guests who joined.

To conclude the delightful afternoon, Romeo conducted a tour of his amazing yard filled with an incredible numbers of palms and tropical plants, all beside a beautiful resaca. The next meeting will be held in January at the home of Danny and Kathy Payton in Harlingen.
